Healthy Holiday Makeup

The holiday season has a certain charm that feels truly enchanting. While gatherings with loved ones occur throughout the year, those in December often carry a heightened significance. They’re perfect opportunities to dress up, indulge ourselves, and try out fresh makeup styles.

Fortunately, glamorous holiday makeup can be achieved with natural, non-toxic products available at health-focused retailers. Here, with insights from two professional makeup artists, we demonstrate how to create stunning looks.

Smoky Eyes

Smoky eyes can be a bit challenging for many, often leading to a more raccoon-like appearance than the desired sultry vibe.

However, organic beauty expert Natalia Campos reassures us that achieving smoky eyes doesn’t have to be a daunting task, nor do they have to be overly dark.

1. Begin with subtle shades. Apply soft greys, blues, or lavender eyeshadow along the lower and upper lash lines.
2. Enhance with a soft smudge using a blending brush or cotton swab.
3. Go for a more dramatic look by continuing with the same shades or incorporating darker colors like plum or charcoal in the crease.
4. For added intensity, use black eyeliner on your lower lash line.

As Campos emphasizes, blending is crucial: “Blend thoroughly to avoid harsh lines, applying lightly and building up until you find your perfect look.”

To finish off, beauty expert Nadia Albano recommends adding a sprinkle of glitter at the center of the smoky eye for a more dimensional effect.

Bold Lips

If classic red isn’t your style, fear not! According to Albano, this season’s lip trends feature deep plum and oxblood shades. Campos concurs: “Dark lips are a major trend for the fall/winter, appearing in both matte and glossy finishes with rich plum and deep brown hues.”

Seek natural lip colors that are enriched with nourishing ingredients like plant oils and cocoa butter.

Add Some Sparkle

Albano suggests that glitter is an exciting way to introduce texture, especially trendy during the holidays.

Two great natural options are illuminating powders, which can be swept onto the cheeks and nose bridge with a blush brush, or solid illuminators applied with fingers. Instead of large flakes from artificial materials, these products derive their shimmer from natural mineral pigments.

Campos adds, “Silvery eyes are also very much in vogue, with soft silver liners and metallic eyeshadows providing a sophisticated touch that adds festive glamour.”
